How it started

There once was a group of students at the University of Twente, who had taken a theater sports course. Soon after, they decided to set up a theater sports group; they gave it the name Pro Deo. The group grew and grew, until the time had come to become an official association at the University of Twente. We have been an association since 1993, but we already existed informally for much longer.

Over the years, Pro Deo has even won several prizes from, among others, the culture student festival De Pythische Spelen, the Dutch Student Theater Sports Champion and the ‘Goud’n Poal’ of the Twents Theatersport Toernooi.

Who are we?

We are a group of people, energetic, dynamic, and full of fun humor. Together we are part of the theater sports association Pro Deo, where we practice the art of improvisational theater in the form of games and competition formats.

Thursday evening is our evening, then we have our rehearsals in the Vrijhof. We currently have three groups: group 1 (beginners) and group 2 (advanced) in Dutch, and an international group; the former perform alternately in the Amphitheater or in the Kleine Zaal. The two Dutch groups play every Thursday evening from 19:15 – 21:00, after which we often storm the theater café in the Vrijhof while enjoying a drink. The international group plays from 21:00 to 22:30.

Our classes are taught by two skilled licensed directors. You will learn the basics of theater sports, different scenes (games) that theater sports has to offer, playing with a high or low status, the art of miming and much more.

In addition to theater sports (lessons), Pro Deo also offers a lot of extra fun, such as the annual camps, dinners, drinks, you name it. Thanks to the Campus card from the UT and Saxion, the contribution is incredibly low: only € 20 for a whole year!
